Gutters costs in Maryland
Gutter repairs are priced by fault, not by the foot. A single leaking seam is a short visit. A run that has to come down and go back up is most of the way to a replacement, and knowing which one you have is the whole question.
Quick answer
Gutter repair in Maryland typically costs $185 to $350 to reseal a seam, corner or end cap, $225 to $550 to re-pitch and re-hang one run, and $275 to $700 to replace a damaged 10 to 20 foot section. Downspout work is $95 to $240. Fascia found rotten behind the gutter adds $18 to $42 per foot. Most single-fault repairs land between $185 and $550, and once three or more faults appear on the same run, replacing that run usually costs less than repairing it piece by piece.
The numbers
Almost no contractor site in this market publishes a number, which is exactly why the question has so much search demand and so little honest supply. These are the ranges we price to in Maryland, with the reason each one is a range and not a price.
Typical in Maryland
Seam, corner or end-cap reseal
$185 – $350
$185 – $350
The most common gutter call and the cheapest to fix. Old sealant is cut out, the joint is cleaned back to bare metal and resealed. Sealing over the top of failed sealant is why some of these come back.
$225 – $550
Hangers reset to restore fall toward the outlet. The usual cause of standing water and of a gutter that overflows in one spot while the rest is dry.
$275 – $700
New material spliced into an existing run. Matching an older profile and colour is the variable here — on a 20-year-old gutter an exact match is sometimes not available, and a visible seam is the honest trade-off.
$95 – $240
Per downspout. Re-attaching a detached one is at the bottom of the band; a full replacement with new elbows and straps is at the top.
$18 – $42 per ft
Discovered rather than expected, and the single most common reason a gutter quote grows. A gutter cannot be hung securely on soft wood, so where we find it, this is not optional.
$150 – $300
For overflow or staining with no visible cause. Includes running water through the system and a written finding. Credited against the repair if you go ahead with us.

We are not going to reseal a joint and leave the run full of debris. A standalone cleaning is priced separately on the gutter cleaning page.
Compare against replacement
At this point the arithmetic usually favours replacing the run. We will show you both numbers rather than quietly selling you four repairs.
+10% – 25%
A rear single-storey run off a ladder and a third-storey front elevation are different days for the same repair. Ground conditions matter too — a run over a deck or a conservatory may need staging.
Ranges, not quotes. Published 2026 and reviewed against work we are actually pricing in Maryland. What your job costs comes from a walkthrough — access, condition, height and finish level move a price more than square footage does. Estimates are free and in writing.
One fault on a sound run is always worth repairing. A seam reseal at $185 to $350 against a replacement run is not a close call. The question gets real at three faults, because three repairs on one run is $600 to $1,500 of work on gutter that is already telling you something about its condition.
Our rule is simple and we will show you the numbers both ways. If the run is sound aluminium, hung on sound fascia, and the faults are discrete, we repair it. If the run sags between hangers along its length, if the fascia is soft at more than one hanger, or if the profile cannot be matched, we will quote the run for replacement and let you choose. Our gutter replacement cost guide carries those figures so you can compare them against the repair numbers here before anyone visits.
What we will not do is sell you a sequence of repairs on a run we already believe is finished. That is how a homeowner spends replacement money twice, and it is the single most common complaint about this trade.
Every gutter quote should say what happens if the fascia behind it is rotten, because on an overflowing gutter it frequently is. We probe behind the gutter at each hanger position before quoting. Where the wood is soft, that repair goes in the quote at $18 to $42 per foot, and it goes in before you sign rather than appearing on the invoice.
The reason it is not optional is structural. A gutter full of water during a Maryland summer downpour is heavy, and hangers screwed into soft fascia will let go — usually in the storm, usually taking a section of gutter and sometimes the fascia board with it. There is no version of this where the gutter goes back on soft wood and we call the job finished.
This is also why the fascia and soffit repair page and this one are separate. They are different scopes with different prices, and a homeowner comparing quotes needs to know which one a given number covers. A gutter repair quote that is notably cheaper than the rest is often a quote that has not looked behind the gutter.
Before you sign anything
Ask every contractor for these in writing. Quotes only compare once they do — and Maryland law requires home improvement work over $500 to be under a written contract anyway.

Gutter Replacement
What moves the number
Usually not because one contractor is expensive. Usually because they are pricing different work. These are the variables that actually move it.
Water coming over the front edge in one place is rarely a hole. It is normally pitch, a blockage at the outlet, or a drip edge that lets water run behind the gutter instead of into it. Each has a different fix and a different cost, which is why we run water through a system before quoting anything beyond an obvious seam.
Gutters hang off fascia. Fascia behind a gutter that has been overflowing for a few seasons is frequently soft, and a hanger screwed into soft wood will pull out. This is the most common surprise on a gutter quote, and it is the reason we probe the fascia at every hanger position before writing a price rather than after taking the gutter down.
Current five-inch and six-inch K-style profiles in common colours are easy to splice into. A twenty-year-old gutter in a discontinued colour is not, and the choice becomes a visible repair or a full run. Half-round and copper are their own conversation, priced on the copper and half-round page rather than here.
Height is the obvious part. Less obvious is what the ladder has to stand on — a run over a deck, a sloping bed or a conservatory roof can turn a one-hour repair into a staging job. We would rather see it than guess, which is why access is a line in our quotes instead of a surprise.
Ice damming, overflow at a valley, and water staining a wall below are system problems, not seam problems. Resealing a joint under a valley that dumps more water than the gutter can carry will fail again next spring. Sometimes the correct recommendation is a larger outlet, an added downspout or a kick-out flashing at the roof, and we would rather say that than sell the easy repair.

Straight answers
Not covered here? Call and ask — you’ll get a real answer, not a “depends on the job”.
Resealing a seam, corner or end cap runs $185 to $350. That includes cutting out the old sealant and cleaning the joint back to bare metal, which is the part that determines whether it holds. Sealant applied over failed sealant looks the same on the day and fails within a season.
Once a single run has three or more faults, or the fascia behind it is soft at more than one hanger, or the profile cannot be matched. Three repairs on one run is $600 to $1,500, which is approaching the cost of replacing that run with new material and new hangers. We will quote both and show you the comparison.
Almost always pitch, or the outlet. A run that has lost its fall holds water at the low point and overflows there first. Re-pitching and re-hanging one run is $225 to $550. The other common cause is a roof valley dumping more water into one spot than the outlet can take away, which is solved with a larger outlet or an extra downspout rather than with sealant.
Not for an obvious fault we can see and quote. Where the cause is not visible — overflow with no blockage, staining on a wall below — there is a $150 to $300 diagnostic visit that includes running water through the system and a written finding, and we credit it against the repair if you go ahead with us.
Usually, on anything from the last ten to fifteen years in a common colour and profile. On older or discontinued gutter, an exact match may not exist, and then the choice is a visible splice or replacing the run so it is uniform. We will tell you which situation you are in before we order material, not after.
