Siding costs in Maryland
Siding repairs are priced by the area opened and by what is found behind it. The square footage of the house has almost nothing to do with it, which is why a per-square-foot quote for a repair should make you suspicious.
Quick answer
Siding repair in Maryland typically costs $165 to $340 to replace and re-hang a single panel, $320 to $780 to patch one course of 10 to 20 feet, and $185 to $420 to replace a corner post or J-channel. Sheathing found damaged behind the siding adds $70 to $140 per sheet. Re-siding one small elevation runs $1,800 to $4,500. The thing that most often decides the number is not the damage but whether your existing siding can still be matched.
The numbers
Almost no contractor site in this market publishes a number, which is exactly why the question has so much search demand and so little honest supply. These are the ranges we price to in Maryland, with the reason each one is a range and not a price.
Typical in Maryland
Single panel replaced and re-hung
$165 – $340
$165 – $340
One panel out, one in, locked back into the courses above and below. More involved than it sounds — the courses above have to be unlocked to release it, which is where panels get cracked by people in a hurry.
$320 – $780
A continuous run at one height. Cheaper per panel than single replacements because the elevation is only opened once.
$185 – $420
Trim rather than field siding, and it runs vertically through several courses, so a surprising amount of siding has to be unlocked to change one piece.
$70 – $140
The board behind the siding. Found rather than expected. Where the siding failed years ago and nobody noticed, this is what the water has been reaching.
Included in the ranges above
Any opened area is re-wrapped and the laps are corrected before the siding goes back. This is not an upgrade and it should not be a line item anyone can remove to win a bid.
$0 – $280
Zero where the profile and colour are current. Up to a few hundred dollars where a match has to be hunted down, and sometimes the honest answer is that no match exists.
$1,800 – $4,500
What we recommend when a match is not available or the damage is spread across one wall. A uniform elevation always reads better than a patched one, and a gable or a side wall is a natural stopping point.
+10% – 25%
Second-storey panel work needs a ladder or staging and a second person to handle full-length panels. Three-storey gable work is quoted after seeing it.
Quoted on site
Vinyl is brittle below about 40 degrees and panels crack when they are flexed cold. We will do urgent repairs in winter and we will tell you honestly that the breakage risk is higher.
Ranges, not quotes. Published 2026 and reviewed against work we are actually pricing in Maryland. What your job costs comes from a walkthrough — access, condition, height and finish level move a price more than square footage does. Estimates are free and in writing.
A quote expressed as a rate per square foot of wall is a replacement quote. For a repair it tells you nothing, because the cost is driven by how many separate places have to be opened, how far up they are, and what is behind them. Two houses of identical size with identical damage in different positions are different prices.
So our repair quotes name the fault: this panel, this course, this corner post. Where we cannot see behind the siding we say what we will do if the sheathing is wet and what that costs per sheet, before you sign. That is the line that most commonly turns a cheap bid into an expensive invoice elsewhere, and putting a number on it in advance costs us nothing.
If the damage is from a storm, the documentation matters as much as the repair. Our storm and wind damage siding page covers the adjuster side of that, and the make-safe visit it describes is a different and faster scope than a planned repair.
Vinyl siding fades. It fades unevenly, because the south elevation gets more sun than the north, and it fades more in the first five years than in the next fifteen. A brand-new panel in the same named colour as your existing siding will not be the same colour as your existing siding, and anyone who says otherwise has not held one up against a twenty-year-old wall.
There are three honest ways through it. First, accept a slightly visible repair in a low-visibility place — a rear elevation, behind a deck, below a window line. Second, take panels from a hidden elevation to repair a prominent one and put the new panels where nobody looks. Third, re-side the affected elevation at $1,800 to $4,500 so the whole wall is uniform and the mismatch sits at a corner, where the eye expects a change.
We will tell you which of those three we think is right for your house and what each costs. What we will not do is fit a new panel into a prominent elevation, take payment, and let you discover the mismatch when the light changes in the afternoon.
Before you sign anything
Ask every contractor for these in writing. Quotes only compare once they do — and Maryland law requires home improvement work over $500 to be under a written contract anyway.

What moves the number
Usually not because one contractor is expensive. Usually because they are pricing different work. These are the variables that actually move it.
This is the real variable and it is barely about damage. Current profiles in current colours splice in invisibly. A twenty-year-old colour that has been discontinued, or has faded two shades in the sun, will not match a new panel even if the profile is right. Where that happens the choice is a visible repair, a repair using panels robbed from a less visible elevation, or re-siding the wall. We check availability before quoting so the conversation happens up front.
A panel cracked by a ladder has nothing behind it. A panel that has been loose for three seasons has had water running down the wrap, and where the wrap was badly lapped that water reached the sheathing. We open a small area and look before pricing anything beyond a single cosmetic panel, because sheathing at $70 to $140 per sheet is the difference between two very different quotes.
Vinyl siding locks course into course. Replacing a panel in the second course from the bottom means unlocking two courses. Replacing one three courses from the top of a two-storey gable means unlocking everything above it, from a ladder. Position is labour, and it is why two apparently identical panel replacements can differ by a hundred dollars.
One panel on each of four elevations is four setups. Four panels on one elevation is one. If you have a list from walking the house after a storm, give us the whole list at once — the marginal cost of the second and third panel in the same area is small, which is the logic behind the per-course price.
Vinyl is the cheapest to repair and the hardest to match. Fibre cement costs more per panel, cuts to fit and takes paint, so matching is a paint problem rather than a sourcing problem. Cedar can be repaired piece by piece almost indefinitely. Insulated siding has to be matched for thickness as well as profile, or the courses will not sit flat.

Straight answers
Not covered here? Call and ask — you’ll get a real answer, not a “depends on the job”.
A single panel replaced and locked back in runs $165 to $340. That range is mostly about position — a panel low on an accessible wall is at the bottom, a panel high on a two-storey gable is at the top, because the courses above it have to be unlocked to release it.
If your profile and colour are current, yes. If the siding is older than about fifteen years or the colour has been discontinued, probably not exactly, because vinyl fades and it fades differently on each elevation. We check availability before quoting and we will tell you up front whether you are getting an invisible repair or a visible one.
Almost always because of sheathing. Siding that has been letting water through has usually been doing it for a while, and the board behind it at $70 to $140 per sheet is the thing nobody can see from outside. Ask any bidder what their per-sheet price is and what happens if they find it wet — a quote that cannot answer that has not planned for it.
Often, yes. One elevation at $1,800 to $4,500 against four or five panel repairs at $165 to $340 each plus a visible colour mismatch is a closer comparison than people expect, and the result is a wall rather than a patched wall. A gable or a side elevation is a natural place to stop, because the corner hides the transition.
Urgent repairs, yes, and we do them. Vinyl gets brittle below roughly 40 degrees and panels crack when they are flexed in the cold, so the breakage risk is genuinely higher and we price cold-weather panel work on site rather than from a table. Planned cosmetic repairs are better value in spring.
