Gutters in Frederick & Central MD
Putting gutters where there were none is a drainage job before it is a sheet metal job. Where the water goes matters more than what carries it there.
Quick answer
A detached garage or a porch roof usually lands between $450 and $1,100 depending on how many runs and downspouts it needs, which reflects a minimum visit charge as much as the material. By the foot, new five-inch seamless aluminium is $8 to $15 installed and six-inch is $11 to $18. If a downspout needs a buried extension to get water away from a foundation, add $18 to $35 a foot for that.
The work
New gutter work comes to us three ways: an addition or garage that has just been framed and roofed, a porch or bay that the original builder left unguttered, and the occasional older house in the county that genuinely never had gutters at all. All three are easier than a replacement in one respect — there is no tear-off and no decades of leak damage behind the fascia — and harder in another, because nobody has already decided where the downspouts go.
That decision is the whole job. A downspout that lands on a walkway makes ice in January. One that discharges at the corner of a foundation puts water exactly where you least want it. One that ties into a buried line somebody installed in 1988 may be discharging into nothing. We walk the grade before we price the metal, and if the honest answer is that a run needs a buried extension to a pop-up fifteen feet out, that is in the quote rather than discovered later.
On new construction and additions we want to be on site before the roof edge is finished, because drip edge over the back of the gutter is a two-minute detail during roofing and a genuinely awkward retrofit afterwards. If the roofer has already gone, we work with what is there and tell you honestly whether water will track behind.
New installation prices much like replacement minus tear-off, plus whatever the discharge side of the job needs. Short porch and garage runs carry a minimum visit charge.
Ranges, not quotes. Real numbers come from a walkthrough — access, condition, height and finish level move a price more than square footage does. Estimates are free and in writing.

What’s included
Written into the estimate, not assumed. If something on your job is not on this list, it gets priced and named before anyone starts.
Where each downspout can actually put water, how far it has to get from the foundation, and whether an existing buried line still works. Decided before anything is ordered.
Contributing area and pitch per elevation against the sizing tables. An addition roof often sheds onto an existing run, which means the existing run may need a bigger outlet.
New fascia checked for straightness and sound fixing before a hanger goes in, and drip edge set so it sheds over the back of the gutter rather than behind it.
Formed on site and colour-matched to the existing gutters where this is an addition, so the new wing does not read as an afterthought from the street.
Corners, transitions and shared runs made to work as one system rather than two that meet at a joint and leak there.

Straight answers
Not covered here? Call and ask — you’ll get a real answer, not a “depends on the job”.
No, and we will say so. A roof with a deep overhang discharging onto a well-graded lawn that slopes away from the house is doing no harm. Gutters matter where water lands on a walkway, a patio or a driveway, where the grade runs back towards the foundation, or where there is a finished basement under the splash line. The question is where the water ends up, not whether the roof has metal on the edge.
In most cases yes. Aluminium coil comes in a wide standard colour range and we form on site, so a new run on an addition can be matched to a system that went on ten or fifteen years ago. Exact matches on very old or custom colours are not always possible, and we would rather show you the closest coil against your existing gutter in daylight than promise an invisible match.
Gutters go on after the roof, but the roofer needs to install drip edge so that it laps over the back of where the gutter will sit. If we are coordinating with your roofer we flag that detail before they finish the edge. Done in the wrong order, water tracks behind the gutter and rots the fascia from the back — a fault that looks like a leaking gutter for years.
Same crew, same visit
Most gutters jobs are two or three of these at once, which is why they are priced and scheduled together rather than as separate call-outs.
From the field
Longer answers than a quote page has room for — how the work fails, what putting it right actually involves, and when waiting is the honest call.
