Gutters in Frederick & Central MD
Replacing gutters is mostly a sizing decision and a fascia decision. The metal is the easy part.
Quick answer
Seamless five-inch aluminium runs $9 to $16 a foot installed in Frederick County, and six-inch runs $12 to $19. A typical house carries 160 to 220 feet, which puts a whole-house replacement at roughly $1,700 to $3,600 including tear-off and disposal. Fascia board that has to be replaced behind the old gutter adds $18 to $42 a foot, and we price that as found with photographs rather than guessing at it up front.
The work
A replacement is the one chance you get to fix a system that was undersized from the day the house was built. Plenty of Frederick County subdivisions from the sixties through the eighties went up with four-inch gutters and two downspouts on a roof that needed five inches and four. Those houses have overflowed every summer since, and every owner has been told their gutters need cleaning. Putting the same four-inch profile back is the one mistake that guarantees a repeat call.
So we measure the roof, not the gutter. Contributing roof area, the pitch feeding each run and the rainfall intensity the Baltimore–Washington region actually sees decide whether a run is five inch or six, and how many outlets it needs. A six-inch K-style gutter carries roughly forty per cent more water than a five, which on a steep rear elevation is the difference between a system that works in a July thunderstorm and one that sheets over the front lip.
The second decision is the fascia, and it is the one that moves a price. The old gutter comes off before we can see the board behind it, and on a system that has been leaking for years some of that board is soft. We quote the gutter firm and the fascia as found, with photographs, rather than carrying a padded allowance you pay for whether we use it or not.
Gutters price by the linear foot installed, and the two things that move the number are profile size and how much fascia has to be put right. A typical Frederick County house carries 160 to 220 feet of gutter.
Ranges, not quotes. Real numbers come from a walkthrough — access, condition, height and finish level move a price more than square footage does. Estimates are free and in writing.

What’s included
Written into the estimate, not assumed. If something on your job is not on this list, it gets priced and named before anyone starts.
Contributing area, roof pitch and outlet count worked out per elevation against the sheet metal sizing tables, so each run is matched to the water it actually has to carry.
Old gutters, downspouts, spikes and hangers out and off the property. Nails pulled rather than hammered over, holes sealed, beds and plantings covered first.
Gutter rolled from coil at the house so a run has no joints except at corners and outlets. Every joint you remove is a future leak you never have to call about.
Concealed hangers on two-foot centres — tighter where snow loads collect — fixed with screws into solid wood. No spikes, which are what loosened the gutters you are replacing.
Soft board replaced, and the drip edge checked so water cannot track behind the new gutter the way it did behind the old one. This is the detail most replacements skip.
Outlets placed where water can actually get away from the house, and discharge taken clear of the foundation rather than dropped at the corner where the basement is.

Straight answers
Not covered here? Call and ask — you’ll get a real answer, not a “depends on the job”.
If a run overflowed with the old five-inch or four-inch gutter and it was not simply blocked, yes. Six-inch carries about forty per cent more water and takes a three-inch by four-inch downspout instead of a two by three, which is also far harder to block. The usual candidates are steep rear elevations, long runs with only one outlet, and any roof over about 1,000 square feet of contributing area. On a short front porch run it is money you do not need to spend.
Most houses are one day — tear-off in the morning, forming and hanging through the afternoon. Add a day where there is significant fascia to replace, or where scaffolding is needed for a three-storey elevation. We do not leave a house open overnight with gutters off and rain forecast.
Routine gutter replacement is maintenance and does not need a permit in Frederick County. It changes if structural fascia or roof framing is being replaced, or if the property is inside the City of Frederick historic district, where exterior work has its own review. We check before we quote and we tell you which bucket your job falls in.
Same crew, same visit
Most gutters jobs are two or three of these at once, which is why they are priced and scheduled together rather than as separate call-outs.
