Painting in Frederick & Central MD
Interior painting where the preparation gets the hours it needs. Filling, sanding and caulking before a finish coat goes anywhere near a wall, because that is the part that decides whether the job still looks right in five years.
Quick answer
Roughly $2 to $6 per square foot of floor area, which is the measure most estimates here use. A bedroom with walls and ceiling lands around $400 to $900. The spread is almost entirely prep — a five-year-old wall in sound condition sits at the bottom of the range, and a wall that needs filling, sanding and priming before anything else happens sits at the top.
The work
Most of what you are paying for in an interior repaint happens before the first gallon is opened. Nail holes filled and sanded flush, hairline cracks cut out and bedded rather than smeared over, caulk run where trim meets wall, and a primer on anything that has been repaired or has never been painted. A wall that gets that treatment takes paint evenly and holds it. A wall that does not will show every one of its shortcuts through the finish coat, usually in the first strong raking light of the morning.
We work room by room rather than opening up a whole floor at once, which means you keep somewhere to live while the job runs. Furniture gets moved to the middle and covered, floors get protected properly rather than with a sheet of plastic that slides around, and switch plates and vent covers come off instead of getting cut around. Putting them back on at the end is five minutes that saves a wobbly line you would otherwise look at every day.
Because we hang and finish drywall as well, the handover between the two trades does not exist here — it is the same crew. That matters more than it sounds. A painter who inherits someone else's rushed joints has two bad options: paint over them and get blamed, or stop and start a conversation about whose fault it is. We are on both sides of that line, so the wall gets fixed and then it gets painted.
Maryland interior painting. Ranges assume standard ceiling heights and reasonable surface condition — heavy filling, sanding and repair work moves them up.
Ranges, not quotes. Real numbers come from a walkthrough — access, condition, height and finish level move a price more than square footage does. Estimates are free and in writing.

What’s included
Written into the estimate, not assumed. If something on your job is not on this list, it gets priced and named before anyone starts.
Fill, sand, caulk and spot-prime. Repairs get primed so they do not flash through the finish, and glossy existing paint gets scuffed so the new coat has something to grip.
Ceilings rolled flat without lap marks, walls cut straight to the ceiling line, trim and doors brushed or sprayed to whichever finish you want.
One coat is a touch-up, not a repaint. Two full coats of finish, and a third where a deep colour is going over a light one or the other way round.
Furniture moved and covered, floors masked, hardware and plates removed and refitted. We clean up at the end of each day rather than at the end of the job.
Flat on ceilings, eggshell or satin where hands and shoulders go, semi-gloss on trim and doors. The wrong sheen in a hallway shows every wipe mark.
Pre-1978 houses carry lead-paint rules when a surface gets disturbed. We follow lead-safe practices rather than sanding first and asking afterwards.

Straight answers
Not covered here? Call and ask — you’ll get a real answer, not a “depends on the job”.
No. We work a room or a floor at a time so you keep somewhere to sleep and eat, and we clean up at the end of each day rather than leaving the job spread out. Most interior repaints of a whole house run four to eight working days depending on size and how much repair work is in front of the painting.
Walls are touch-dry in a couple of hours and safe to lean furniture against the next day. Full cure takes longer — around two weeks for most latex paints — which is why we recommend not scrubbing a new wall or taping anything to it for the first fortnight. Trim and doors in semi-gloss want the same patience before anything gets stacked against them.
Sometimes, and we will tell you honestly which case yours is. Paper that is tight to the wall everywhere, with no lifting seams and no vinyl face, can be sealed and painted. Paper that is loose at the edges, bubbled, or has a plastic coating will telegraph through or let go later, and the right answer there is to strip it first and skim the board face.
Same crew, same visit
Most painting jobs are two or three of these at once, which is why they are priced and scheduled together rather than as separate call-outs.
From the field
Longer answers than a quote page has room for — how the work fails, what putting it right actually involves, and when waiting is the honest call.
Sources worth your time
None of these are ours. They are the offices and standards bodies that set the rules we work to, so you can verify what we say rather than take it.
